Although it may feel like you are grieving on an island, there are people just like you who want to find a way through the pain of loss, and who have chosen meditation for grief as a way to cope.
This group is open to people who want to use meditation to help cope with grief connecting with like-minded people. If you think you would benefit from sharing your experience, witnessing your peers, and having the ability to ask questions and receive a mindful response, this group is for you.
HOW THE ONLINE SUPPORT GROUP WORKS
Each week during the eight-week program you will join the group via telephone or computer using Zoom, a free, virtual conference call program. If you have a WebCam, or connect via smart phone, you will have the opportunity to turn your camera on and be seen, or keep it off and remain anonymous. If you have a spotty Internet connection or are traveling, you can join by telephone.
If you are going to miss a week or two, each session will be recorded and posted within a couple of days. Only the audio (not the video) will be available to protect our privacy.
CONTINUING SUPPORT BEYOND THE EIGHT WEEKS
In addition to the weekly group meetings, you will receive an invitation to join the private Mindfulness & Grief Online Group. Here, we can share links and information that come up during the call. You’ll remain a member of this private Facebook group for as long as you wish.
Once this eight week program has ended, the members of this group will be eligible to join the monthly drop-in Meditation for Grief Alumni Call. This call operates in a similar fashion as the eight week group, but is ongoing and once a month, and members span several groups.

Heather is the author of Mindfulness & Grief, and a contributor to Techniques of Grief Therapy: Assessment & Intervention, edited by the esteemed grief therapist Dr. Bob Neimeyer. Heather is on the board of advisors for T*A*P*S (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors of Military Loss), and contributes to T*A*P*S Magazine.
Heather holds a Master's Degree in Thanatology, which is the study of
Death, Dying, and Bereavement, from Hood College. She is an
IAYT Certified Yoga Therapist,
and holds three certificates from the Phoenix Rising Yoga School of
Yoga Therapy, in yoga therapy, therapeutic yoga teacher training, and
group facilitation. She is also registered through Yoga Alliance as a
Registered Yoga Teacher-200 hours.
Heather discovered yoga and mindfulness while she was the CEO of a web development company and diagnosed with a stress-related illness. These contemplative practices inspired her to live a life in service to others, and she became a suicide/crisis hotline call specialist in honor of her uncle who died by suicide when Heather was a child. Heather has led workshops for organizations including Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), National Fallen Firefighter’s Foundation, National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization, and the Association of Death Education and Counseling.
